Saturday Mixcast: The Magician, Dan Castro, Gigamesh

The weekly mixcast generally features at length one artist and their most recent mix, but seeing as I slept on last week’s edition and an abundance of great mixes have been released in the last month, I figured I would give you folks a selection of my favourites!

House, Vocal House: Dan Castro – April 2011 Promo Mix

Dan’s latest mix may sample some of the best new house, from Tim Green to French Government, but the flavour in this set really comes from his own remixes and originals which he included. You can always tell if a guy would be enjoyable to see live by his mix, and this is a dude I wouldn’t miss if I had the chance!

Minimal, Ambient, Ethereal: Gigamesh – White Light 36

Very relaxing, thoughtful – a mix that you will want to listen to all the way from start to finish. This one is best put in Gigamesh’s words:

“White Light will always be about night driving, introspection and taking the time to listen from start to finish.” When I read this, I knew exactly the kind of mix I wanted to make. While going to college, I had to make many long road trips across state lines. I tended to listen to a lot of Minimalism on those drives (Steve Reich, Philip Glass, etc), which to my ears completely embodies introspection and time. So I decided to make mix that bridges my current career in dance music with the simple, introspective qualities of music I listened to on those drives. This mix might be a little unexpected based on the music I’ve released, but I really wanted to showcase some of my influences and music I listen to for pleasure. Enjoy!”
