The venue that isdefinitive of the last year + of my life in Toronto’s music scene is celebrating its 3rd anniversary this weekend. The spot that was home for over a year on Saturday nights has now become the home base the hottest midweek party in the city Bassmentality. I’ve been privileged to work with a venue that has been rated the best in the city by Now Magazine on so many different endeavors. It was the home our 1 Year Anniversary Party. It will be the home of our event with Conor Cutz for the New World Tour.
If you look at my article w/ Cody on the best shows of 2009 Wrongbar was our most frequently touted venue. This year it has played host to a number of the biggest shows to come through Toronto. Paired with Embrace for NastyMix Saturdays, they continue to bring some of the hottest names in Electronic music to Toronto. It has been the spot that Bassmentality chose to take its midweek Dubstep event to a next level, Borgore might have been one of the most memorable shows the venue has ever had. Now Magazine named them the best club in Toronto this year.
They are celebrating the occasion with an impressive 3 night salute to good house music. Tensnake, Wolf and Lamb, and Jesse Rose will grace the stage this coming weekend. This week it will have played host to two very different artists before the anniversary festivities even begin, Aloe Blac and Dieselboy. This is an excellent example of what the venue has become, an omni-genre, culturally significant landmark in the heart of Parkdale. This week is a microcosm of the type of talent that have graced the stage in the past 3 years. Each year Wrongbar proves to be the birthplace of many major musicians followings in Toronto. A large number of the biggest acts to come to Toronto first stepped foot on Wrongbar’s stage, from Bloody Beetroots, to Miike Snow in the past and even Skrillex in the coming weeks. If it happens at Wrongbar this year, don’t be surprised to see it fill thousand person venues in the next.
The venue that spawns cool.
