Steve Aoki at The Kee to Bala in Bala, Ontario last summer was Muskoka’s biggest jam, pushing the limits of the venue’s 900 person capacity on the shores of Lake Muskoka, 2 hours north of TO. This year Hennessey Events, Voice Marketing, Substance, and Muskoka Militia are bringing in LA RIOTS for what is sure to be another banger of a sold out event. This video should give you a good idea of how ridiculous this party gets:
On the bill with homegrown talent the 89ers, Snake Williams, Feddy Haze, and Status Disko in from the UK for a special set, LA Riots always put on the type of shows has led to JFK of MSTRKRFT to say “they are best DJs in LA, and whenever we play with them, we know we really have to bring our best, and not many DJs make me nervous”
What started as founding partners Daniel LeDisko and John O’Brien coming to together on April 27, 2007 (the anniversary of the historic LA Riots in 1992, following the acquittal of the four LAPD officers for the beating of Rodney King,) turned into a globally recognized DJ/Production team that produced nothing but “straight up, hot-as-shit club bangers” remixing for the likes of Hot Chip, Tietso, Crystal Castles, Chromeo, Justice, Kid Sister, Laidback Luke, MSTRKRFT, NASA, and Timbaland, just to name a few.
But by last summer, the pair was looking to evolve into separate directions. O’Brien is pursuing ambitions in the mainstream production world, and LeDisko has teamed up with veteran DJ/Producer Pegnato to continue the LA Riots legacy, aiming to evolve beyond indie electro into house and techno production, probably because it’s a more globally scalable genre for a production team.
Signed to A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs Brooklyn-based label, Fool’s Gold, the new LA Riots were named Break out Stars at WMC in Miami this year by Beatport. Having already headlined major shows all around the world, this could be the only time to catch them at such a unique setting as The Kee to Bala before they start headlining the at the major clubs.
Hennessey Events has been doing events at the Kee to Bala for 5 years starting with BALAPALOOZA in 2006, everyone of which has been completely sold out.
