Winning Beatport’s contests, climbing their charts, and releasing tracks on some of EDMs biggest labels is all common for twenty year old Austin Collins. Better known as, Au5, Collin’s has been making a name for himself. In the same vein as Seven Lions, Au5 combines elements of heavy Bass music and Trance to form something he likes to call “Trancestep.” While he has covered many genres, his sound remains intact throughout. Au5 first caught my attention when he won Beatport’s Seven Lions remix competition, once I heard that track I instantly checked out his back catalog.
He’s released tracks through OWSLA, Rottun, and Viper just to name a few. His latest release, Crystal Mathematics, is a two track EP featuring liquid bass and aggressive drums. On the title track he teams up with Shaz Sparks, who lends some beautiful and meaningful vocals. The second track off of the EP, Reason 2, is my favorite track he’s released so far. A smooth Drum N Bass beat is accompanied by some of the best bass design I’ve heard in a long time. Stop what you’re doing and listen below!
