There’s a long-standing saying in the electronic music community that not all DJs are producers and not all producers are DJs. That’s why I always find it interesting when someone makes the jump with great success.
RPEG is a well-known DJ in the East Coast electronic music scene, running events for Earmilk regularly in NYC and Philadelphia. Now, what I find most curious (and appealing) about this track is the way that his experience mixing has impacted the transitions between breakdowns. The track is separated into very distinct segments and while the similarities between them vary, the transitions work so perfectly that it all makes perfect sense. You won’t find any easy way outs in Naom-I.
