From far out of leftfield, this surprising fusion of RNB and slow, syrupy future bass has just exploded across twitter today. Bubbling producer Y2K and self proclaimed “greatest songwriter in the world” Lil’ Aaron combine forces to drop this tounge-in-cheek yet undeniable anthem about making it and “Never going back to my hometown”, a sentiment a lot of us can surely share. With distorted, propelling 808s, classical string work reminiscent of Bad Boy’s best and Aaron’s catchy, but ultimately compelling lyrics, we’ve got ourselves a dark horse in the race to see who stands out in 2016. In a quote from Pigeons and Planes, who just officaly premiered the track, Y2K Says:
““‘DAMN’ is the track that defined our sound,” producer Y2K says. “We made it the first time we met up. Since then, we’ve worked on a bunch of songs together. You can expect to hear those soon.”
