The Top Thirteen Best Dubstep Tracks of 2010

Article by

I’ve been going on the top ten for a while now, and for the most part it has been a pretty popular way of sharing what has been successful with readers, or just what’s hot on my list at the moment. Hopefully this effort to chronicle what I think are the top ten best dubstep songs of 2010 so far goes off as well.

#13 | Fuski and Dodge – Pornstep feat. The Highbury Whores (Original Mix)

Flux Pavilion has had a steady stream of high quality releases on Circus Recs over the last year and a bit, and his production is really looking up. He’s in regular contact with dudes like Doctor P, which can’t hurt :)

What others are saying: “Grimier than a back-alley abortion.”

Fuski and Dodge - Pornstep feat. The Highbury Whores (Original Mix)

#12 | Freestylers – Cracks (Flux Pavilion Remix)

Flux Pavilion has had a steady stream of high quality releases on Circus Recs over the last year and a bit, and his production is really looking up. He’s in regular contact with dudes like Doctor P, which can’t hurt :)

What others are saying: “Harder than f*ck!ng the grenade on a 26 of whiskey, after she’s railed blow off your dick.”

Freestylers - Cracks (Flux Pavilion Remix)

#11 | Rusko – Da Cali Anthem

Rusko is crossing over in a big way, and though people fault him for capitalizing, I would argue that he’s doing a service to the genre by making it more accessible and fun. This is a straight up great party jam.

What others are saying: “Louder than your wh*re mother with the milkman.”

Rusko - Da Cali Anthem

#10 | Ginz & Baobinga – The Good Stank

Now here is a dude, Ginz that is, that is making some proper shit. I first came across his work on the Joker and Ginz remix of Basement Jaxx’s Raindrops last year, and I was impressed. Though it lacks some of the oomph that Joker brings in the production department, it has a lot going for it musically.

What others are saying: “Stankier than discovering your daughter in a wank film.. and FINISHING.”

#9 | Breakage Ft Donaeyo – Speechless

More subdued, with disparate influences and a chill vibe. Sounds like Seal meets, well.. Breakage.

What others are saying: “Badmon ting.”

Breakage Ft Donaeyo - Speechless

#8 | Sub Focus – Could This Be Real (Joker Remix)

Nother Joker hit.. dope ass dubby vocals, tremendous production quality, and musically just a great track. To me, this is a real win, in so far as I can listen to this while I bang away at work, or get jacked up on at the club.

What others are saying: “Bigger than an Irishman on 6 beers.”

Sub Focus - Could This Be Real (Joker Remix)

Check out our best of 2012 article:

Salacious Sound's Compilation of the best, most popular dubstep songs of 2011

#7 | Muse – Knights of Cydonia (Nostalgia Dubstep Remix)

This track has a massive.. and I mean MASSIVE buildup. So massive that if you had your fucking wits about you, you would be properly afraid for your life.

What others are saying: “Unexpectedly hard and deep, like f*ck!ng a midget with a huge willy.”

Muse - Knights of Cydonia (Nostalgia Dubstep Remix)

#6 | Major Lazer and La Roux – Bulletproof (Nacey Remix ft. Matt Hemerlein)

It’ll be a sad day when La Roux’s vocals finally get remixed one too many times. Fortunately, that day is not today. This is another fantastic re-envisioning of Bulletproof – perhaps my favourite to date – with a compelling dichotomy between the soothing piano, violin, and La Roux vocal, and the relatively simplistic hip-hop inspired beat.

What others are saying: “Like a sexually confused frat boy alone in a room with Justin Bieber and a fistful of rohypnol.”

Major Lazer and La Roux - Bulletproof (Nacey Remix ft. Matt Hemerlein)

#5 | Sleigh Bells – Run The Heart (Bassnectar Remix)

Everything about this track is just fantastic, from the timing down to the incredible and falling bass notes, and the way that they interplay with the guitar noises and the awesome vocal. Bass + female vocal = win.

What others are saying: “Heavier than Godzilla’s bollocks.”

Sleigh Bells - Run The Heart (Bassnectar Remix)

#4 | The Rolling Stones – Gimme Shelter (Zeds Dead Remix)

Some people might brush this one off as kitchy… those people are retarded, and probably don’t read this site. It not only takes balls to remix one of the greatest songs of all time, it’s also incredibly easy to fuck up. This song not only does the original justice, it also rocks everyone’s mind when they hear it for the first time.

What others are saying: “F*ck!ng money.”

The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter (Zeds Dead Remix).mp3

#3 | Nero – Innocence (Original Mix)

When I heard Nero’s remix of The Streets’ Blinded By the Lights last year, I thought to myself ‘here is a real innovator’. Well, this track still makes me feel that way. It’s dudes like this who I expect will step up this genre which, I think in many ways is still in its infancy.

What others are saying: “Has daddy issues – starts out innocent and sweet, but ends up a real dirty wh*re..”

Nero - Innocence (Original Mix).mp3

#2 | Doctor P – Sweet Shop

A small note, before I’m attacked mercilessly by crowd-sourcing hipster accuracy bots: this was released on a 2 side 10″ in February. This bad boy combines diverse inspiration with tight production, and hip hop sensibilities.

What others are saying: “Louder than Justin Bieber in an elevator with Roman Polanski.”

Doctor P - Sweet Shop.mp3

#1 | The Moody Blues – White Satin (Zeds Dead Remix)

Straight up, the best, most epic dubstep track to come out this year. I will be seriously shocked if anything can top this.

What others are saying: “More epic than The Oddyssey.”

I can’t hear the difference between most of these tracks, all the beats are the same with different SAs overlaid

  10. DJ Cal says:

    @Jake

While I would indict most dubstep producers for that very thing, I actually don’t think your comment is fair to tracks on this list like Innocence, Sweet Shop, Bulletproof, and Could This Be Real. I also think you’re ignoring the complexity in a few of the other tracks on the list that really set them apart from the rest of dubstep, like in White Satin, Run The Heart, and Gimme Shelter.

Thanks for sharing your input, but I think you’re totally off base here.

  18. Muzzwai says:

@ DJ Cal, your so right in your response to jake, just what I was thinking as I read through. It’s a great list, obviously not up to everybodies standard but it shows that Dubstep is becoming a little bit more diverse, I have my favorites, some not on the list but I wont complain. I was at the prodigy -warriors dance festival in the UK, respect to the Dj’s that dropped dub tracks to the 65000 crowd.

  19. AviGandhi says:

Not be one of those “WHY NOT MY FAVORITE SONG?” douchebags, as this list is fantastic, but I HAVE to throw this one out there:

  36. Antonio "DJ SAT" of The Maniac All-Stars says:

This is very solid list! I got to admit some of our summer dance floor bombs came straight from this list – especially the moody blues – a diamond in the rough ;) For “Grimmest” one name always comes up in my mind that I feel doesn’t get the proper recognition:

    - Numbernin6 -

Here are some examples – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnlDMXpIivc

  46. Royce says:

    Where is excision???? wtf! seriously.

  47. Angela says:

Excision? this list was okay but I think one should definitely be Rhinestone Eyes hooky remix.

  48. tru says:

posted just aboot half way thru the year? you cant make a best 20101 list half way thru the year. If you had waited u would have heard Lines In Wax by Flux Pavilion. The full version not the short one. Should definitely be on this list, along with Pass Me By by: Trolley Snatcha. But there are still ballin tracks on here. About half of them are where they should be but some of those tracks arent top 10 material or in this case “top 13″ Just my opinion though.

  49. Warren says:

The Boogalow Crew – “Days Go By” should be on this list. Straight Grime….

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGFmyVfz4QA

  50. Jason says:

Hmmm… very good list. I agree with placing White Satin on top. I sometimes wish these lists would reach out to some of the less known artists that imho are often the most innovative. One of my favorites of the year for instance comes from practically unknown “Saef”. Friends (Saef Remix)- http://deepelmdigital.com/track/friends-saef-remix . I’d like to see more stuff like this. Am i wrong to desire this?

  51. Jonathan says:

I dare say, whoever put this list of songs together, really knows their beats, the article tells you exactly what it says, the BEST.

Kudos to the die hard dubstep fan

  66. chubbzyo says:

solid track list. glad to see the nectar up thurrr but his wildstyle ep is fiiiirrrrre

  67. summer says:

    Muse – Knights of Cydonia
This track is lame. Take away the Muse part and you have nothing.

    The rest is probably good.

  68. DJSKYWALKER says:

Dj Fresh – Gold Dust (flux pavilion remix)

Better than the rest so far! Hit it up!

  69. Datdrop says:

Great list. I would have liked to see the Gold Dust remix by Flux Pavilion and Here Comes The Boom by Zeds Dead, but there’s already 2 Zeds Dead tracks on here anyway. White Satin is 100% best track of the year though.

    Thanks for a great list.

  70. Hitler's Bro says:

red layd blak not on there :/

  71. mike says:

might sound like a dumb question to a lot of ppl on here but although i like this list a lot, is it just me or is the sound on these tracks really distorted or low in qual.? Maybe it’s my $50 speakers not being able to handle the bass though. Or does a lot of dubstep just naturally sound like it’s crackling/breaking up?

  72. savannahhnoel says:

NONONO. the best track is probably firepower by datsik. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFI0OxLUIBc

or wonderland (peace treaty dubstep remix)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXvmUxIUxUc

or in for the kill skrillex remix.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpEOErRV-u4

or Ellie Goulding – Starry Eyed (Dubstep Remix) you have to listen to the whole thing
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Jigf0ULQVc

  88. Cole Kilgallen says:

This list is really good. im not gonna throw my “MY FAV IS….” but there is a couple i could think of :)

  89. Lillian says:

I agree with Matthew. Skrillex is amazing. I like how he managed to mix sweet sounds with a grungy beat in “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites”. And the way he mixed “Weekends”. OMG. Did you guys hear about how he is supposed to be mixing his own version of “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga? I’m not much on her, but ANYTHING by Skrillex is amazing. Two thumbs up on this list, BTW. IMO, it’s got some of the best songs on it. :)

  90. Lillian says:

I also think that “I Love You” by Rusko should be on here. Great song.

    Sad Dubstep
Skrillex: Scary monsters and nice spirits

Noisia: Machine gun (remix audio to transformers 3 trailer)

I think skrillex should dubstep on Marilyn Manson’s – The last day on earth

  98. dubstep says:

    Nero for #1 !!!

  99. Gabe says:

thank GOD Skrillex isn’t on this list. I would’ve been very disappointed if he was. I do think that Chrispy, Datsik, or Excision should’ve been on here though. Besides that, still great selection.

  100. hannah says:

borgore has to be one of the best!

  101. TheOne says:

Lost Woods Remix by Ephixa….. best ever.

  102. deadbasskrillex says:

    WTF WHERE IS SKRILLEX?!?!

  103. funky beats only says:

WHAT? 2010 must have been a lame year for dubstep as this all sounds like souless “san francisco house music”. the entire reason i like dubstep is that it’s the first “post kraftwerk” techno genre that slows down & gets funky. this stuff has that “same old same old” sound that makes 99.99% of rave music ANNOYING.

REAL dubstep is stuff you can actually dance to like: bass down low (dubstep remix), spongebob, well’ard & square feet. NONE of these tracks have that kind of funk. it’s a sad list when sweet shop is “the best” track in a list.

it’s lists like this that are the EXACT reason i avoid ALL same sounding rave/techno/house/jungle (???!!!)/breakbeat (???!!!) etc. music.

i hope at least there’s still SOME dubstep out there that’s slow and funky, if not, those 4 songs will be the ONLY dubstep i can tolerate. this list was pure torture and wasn’t dubstep as i know it… square feet is the stuff. this is just boring soulless rave music.

    death to 130+ BPM!!!!

  104. DawL says:

    To above post….

That is because this is not dubstep at all…it is brostep, or robostep. I understand what you are saying, and everyone is entitled to like what they like. I personally love robostep, but have mad respect for the dub, 2-step garage, and dubstep producers that paved the way for this style of music.

Also, the only thing I HATED about this list was all the fucking idiots on here asking why Skrillex isn’t on this list…that would be because he doesn’t even rank up there with the other producers on this list, and most brostep and dubstep elitist cant stand him because he brings negative attention to this genre of EDM…and so do most of the “fans” Skrillex has. Do yourself a favor, and try to educate yourself on real dubstep, what it stands for, where it came from, instead of blindly following an ugly, washed up, emo kid that decided he wanted to PROFIT from electronic music because his fucking band SUCKED.

  105. Kyle says:

All i have to say is, where is Skrillex?

  106. s00p says:

The Muse remix gave me chest spasms. WOW.

  107. John says:

    I found ”

Do You (PANTyRAiD remix) – Adam Freeland:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABfr3IdLeSE

too slow to be on this list!

    ———————

“Muse – Knights of Cydonia (Nostalgia Dubstep Remix)” totally rocked. I liked the way it was described …. massive buildup indeed!!

  108. John says:

    Also totally agree with

Antonio “DJ SAT” of The Maniac All-Stars

    - Numbernin6 totally rocked hard!

  109. John says:

Everybody who said where is Skrllx – Keep in mind that this was a 2010 List!!

  110. Mr. Man says:

    Organ Donor-Zomboy

  111. DUBASS says:

Cracks is amazing! One of my favorites. There’s also Kickstarts by Example and Keep the Fire by Goldhawks (BAR9 Remix) both aren’t the heaviest, but are very great! Everyone should check out Zomboy as well!
