The Top Thirteen Best Dubstep Tracks of 2010

I’ve been going on the top ten for a while now, and for the most part it has been a pretty popular way of sharing what has been successful with readers, or just what’s hot on my list at the moment. Hopefully this effort to chronicle what I think are the top ten best dubstep songs of 2010 so far goes off as well.

#13 | Fuski and Dodge – Pornstep feat. The Highbury Whores (Original Mix)

Flux Pavilion has had a steady stream of high quality releases on Circus Recs over the last year and a bit, and his production is really looking up. He’s in regular contact with dudes like Doctor P, which can’t hurt :)

What others are saying: “Grimier than a back-alley abortion.”

#12 | Freestylers – Cracks (Flux Pavilion Remix)

Flux Pavilion has had a steady stream of high quality releases on Circus Recs over the last year and a bit, and his production is really looking up. He’s in regular contact with dudes like Doctor P, which can’t hurt :)

What others are saying: “Harder than fucking the grenade on a 26 of whiskey, after she’s railed blow off your dick.”

Freestylers - Cracks (Flux Pavilion Remix).mp3

#11 | Rusko – Da Cali Anthem

Rusko is crossing over in a big way, and though people fault him for capitalizing, I would argue that he’s doing a service to the genre by making it more accessible and fun. This is a straight up great party jam.

What others are saying: “Louder than your whore mother with the milkman.”

#10 | Ginz & Baobinga – The Good Stank

Now here is a dude, Ginz that is, that is making some proper shit. I first came across his work on the Joker and Ginz remix of Basement Jaxx’s Raindrops last year, and I was impressed. Though it lacks some of the oomph that Joker brings in the production department, it has a lot going for it musically.

What others are saying: “Stankier than discovering your daughter in a wank film.. and FINISHING.”

#9 | Breakage Ft Donaeyo – Speechless

More subdued, with disparate influences and a chill vibe. Sounds like Seal meets, well.. Breakage.

What others are saying: “Badmon ting.”

Breakage Ft Donaeyo - Speechless.mp3

#8 | Sub Focus – Could This Be Real (Joker Remix)

Nother Joker hit.. dope ass dubby vocals, tremendous production quality, and musically just a great track. To me, this is a real win, in so far as I can listen to this while I bang away at work, or get jacked up on at the club.

What others are saying: “Bigger than an Irishman on 6 beers.”

Sub Focus - Could This Be Real (Joker Remix).mp3

#7 | Muse – Knights of Cydonia (Nostalgia Dubstep Remix)

This track has a massive.. and I mean MASSIVE buildup. So massive that if you had your fucking wits about you, you would be properly afraid for your life.

What others are saying: “Unexpectedly hard and deep, like fucking a midget with a huge cock.”

Muse - Knights of Cydonia (Nostalgia Dubstep Remix).mp3

#6 | Major Lazer and La Roux – Bulletproof (Nacey Remix ft. Matt Hemerlein)

It’ll be a sad day when La Roux’s vocals finally get remixed one too many times. Fortunately, that day is not today. This is another fantastic re-envisioning of Bulletproof – perhaps my favourite to date – with a compelling dichotomy between the soothing piano, violin, and La Roux vocal, and the relatively simplistic hip-hop inspired beat.

What others are saying: “Like a sexually confused frat boy alone in a room with Justin Bieber and a fistful of rohypnol.”

Major Lazer and La Roux - Bulletproof (Nacey Remix ft. Matt Hemerlein).mp3

#5 | Sleigh Bells – Run The Heart (Bassnectar Remix)

Everything about this track is just fantastic, from the timing down to the incredible and falling bass notes, and the way that they interplay with the guitar noises and the awesome vocal. Bass + female vocal = win.

What others are saying: “Heavier than Godzilla’s bollocks.”

Sleigh Bells - Run The Heart (Bassnectar Remix).mp3

#4 | The Rolling Stones – Gimme Shelter (Zeds Dead Remix)

Some people might brush this one off as kitchy… those people are retarded, and probably don’t read this site. It not only takes balls to remix one of the greatest songs of all time, it’s also incredibly easy to fuck up. This song not only does the original justice, it also rocks everyone’s mind when they hear it for the first time.

What others are saying: “Fucking money.”

The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter (Zeds Dead Remix).mp3

#3 | Nero – Innocence (Original Mix)

When I heard Nero’s remix of The Streets’ Blinded By the Lights last year, I thought to myself ‘here is a real innovator’. Well, this track still makes me feel that way. It’s dudes like this who I expect will step up this genre which, I think in many ways is still in its infancy.

What others are saying: “Has daddy issues – starts out innocent and sweet, but ends up a real dirty whore..”

Nero - Innocence (Original Mix).mp3

#2 | Doctor P – Sweet Shop

A small note, before I’m attacked mercilessly by crowd-sourcing hipster accuracy bots: this was released on a 2 side 10″ in February. This bad boy combines diverse inspiration with tight production, and hip hop sensibilities.

What others are saying: “Louder than Justin Bieber in an elevator with Roman Polanski.”

Doctor P - Sweet Shop.mp3

#1 | The Moody Blues – White Satin (Zeds Dead Remix)

Straight up, the best, most epic dubstep track to come out this year. I will be seriously shocked if anything can top this.

What others are saying: “More epic than The Oddyssey.”

  1. Sick post.. that Nero track is one of the best of the year for sure.

  2. kravdram says:

i cant find anything wrong with this list

  3. Great collection. Thanks.

  4. Plan B – She said (16 bit remix) should be on this list!

  5. only track that even belongs anywhere near this list is sweet shop…. everything else was bunk as hell

  6. I agree with Nero being on this list, but WTF? No Scuba?

  7. Having just realised that this list is for the GRIMIEST dubstep tracks, I would like to retract my previous post. :)

  8. I can’t hear the difference between most of these tracks, all the beats are the same with different SAs overlaid

  9. @Jake

While I would indict most dubstep producers for that very thing, I actually don’t think your comment is fair to tracks on this list like Innocence, Sweet Shop, Bulletproof, and Could This Be Real. I also think you’re ignoring the complexity in a few of the other tracks on the list that really set them apart from the rest of dubstep, like in White Satin, Run The Heart, and Gimme Shelter.

Thanks for sharing your input, but I think you’re totally off base here.

  10. The buildup and drop in White Satin is amazing. Would have liked to see some Mt. Eden up there.

  11. Spantroniclesofgnarnia says:

Mt. Eden – Sierra Leone, but this list is fucking legit

  12. OMG! this is sick and heavy 2 the bone!

    THX A LOT!

  13. punktematrix says:

Mt. Eden is good, but for what they’re trying to accomplish, there are other producers who have exceeded what they’ve done.

The White Satin track is so fucking good I can’t wait to drop it live.

  14. Awesome post! I just saw Nero play a free Scion AV show a few days ago and it was pure insanity. Girls bending over the speakers and pulling their skirts up, if that’s any indication

  15. This is the best Dubstep site I’ve found all night, big kudos!

  16. Muzzwai says:

@ DJ Cal, your so right in your response to jake, just what I was thinking as I read through. It’s a great list, obviously not up to everybodies standard but it shows that Dubstep is becoming a little bit more diverse, I have my favorites, some not on the list but I wont complain. I was at the prodigy -warriors dance festival in the UK, respect to the Dj’s that dropped dub tracks to the 65000 crowd.

  17. AviGandhi says:

Not be one of those “WHY NOT MY FAVORITE SONG?” douchebags, as this list is fantastic, but I HAVE to throw this one out there:

Do You (PANTyRAiD remix) – Adam Freeland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABfr3IdLeSE

    Listen with some heavy bass.

  18. AMAZING post you rocked me

  19. TokugawaIeyasu says:

    Holy shit man!

I thought Nero-Innocence was the BEST track of the year for sure. But for some reason I didn’t notice White Satin(Zeds Dead Remix) this year. But what a track! It immediatly took me away!

  20. these tracks are tighter then a virgin on prom night…sicker then leper with aids….and so very filthy, dirrtayyy…beatz

cant wait for it to become more mainstream in NYC

  21. Too bad the list came out before Flux Pavilion’s Can’t Stop.

  22. Polaris Kyo says:

    Mad props!! +_+

  23. hold on-rusko sub focus remix should be number one

  24. sick list. much thanks. although i agree with kitt, hold on-rusko sub focus remix is some monster shit and deserves recognition. makes me wanna smash shit.

  25. Ridiculously stupid-dope post. Oh yesssssss!!!!

  26. sick set! nice work!
