City of Ommz is the first full-length effort by Toronto-native and cross-genre collaborator Omar Linx, whom you may recognize from such massive hits as Rude Boy, or Out For Blood – major hits he collaborated on with Zeds Dead. The mixtape includes 14 solid tracks, with several standouts and a few big collabs with Royce Da 5’9″ + Joell Ortiz, Deuce Wonder, and Redway, and Pro Logic, Zeds Dead, Hooks, Northern Profit, and Arthur McArthur collecting production credits.

To me, City of Ommz feels more like a third album on a major than it does a first mixtape, on account of the maturity of Linx’s lyrical material, and his adept delivery (expect him to keep getting better, like an expensive whiskey!) This is clearly the outpouring of an artist who has been writing for YEARS, and has a lot more to say. What I’m trying to say here is this: if City of Ommz doesn’t make you feel like you’ve just discovered a star-to-be, and gotten in on the ground floor, then you haven’t ever listened to Drake’s first mixtape Room For Improvement, which pales in comparison.
