Female producer Whipped Cream has just released her EP Mirrors in collaboration with Hekler. This entire EP is massive and will surely be heavily played throughout the upcoming festival circuit. Mirrors is by far one of the most unique and diverse EP’s I’ve heard in quite some time. It is jam packed with head banging trap but will also have you catching feels with the future bass vibes throughout. Her creativity is by far at an all time high, and she has been so cool in putting together some tips for any readers trying to be innovative and unique.
WHIPPED CREAMS’S 5 ZEN & WELLNESS TIPS CRUCIAL TO STAYING IN THE CREATIVE ZONE
1. MAKE TIME
Making time to create is the number one thing for me to stay feeling free to create whatever I want. There’s nothing I dislike more than knowing I have to be some where in two hours or even tomorrow when I’m in my creating zone. Now, I realize as DJs are constantly traveling which forces us to produce on the road, in the air in airports ETC. Its important to just try to make time in between. I produce best when I am relaxed. In a quiet environment. However, we are all different. Some of my friends love producing in airports, other people’s busy energy seem to stimulate them.
2. FORCE YOURSELF TO WORK ON THINGS YOU’RE NOT GOOD AT / DO NOT LIKE
This is a big one for me. I shied away for a full year on really finishing tracks just because I felt they wouldn’t be good enough or I didn’t know how to get the ideas in my head down. Well, yeah when you’re learning shit’s not going to be at a Gesaffelstein Level. However, you’re never going to exceed your creative juices w/out pushing what you believe are your boundaries. Believe it or not, we all suck at some stuff AND some stuff just comes easier. Now, I’m not saying beat yourself up and force yourself 8 hours a day to overcome the things that don’t come easy. I’m saying take an hour to really concentrate on the things that are stopping to you fully release what’s inside.
3. Take BREAKS!!!!!! LISTEN TO MUSIC AND GO TO SHOWS!!!
I feel this could be number one but it’s not… working is. HOWEVER. It’s close. For the first 2 years of my career, I totally forgot about this part. Producing just consumed my life. No joke, My parent’s family and friends hardly saw me for 2 years. I was GRINDING. Now, if I could go back I would tell myself: relax a bit and take in the journey and process. YES, You can go out for your friend for the night. YES going outside for a 45-minute walk will re-juice you. YES, going to see family at a gathering (as exhausting as it can be lolol ) will also re-juice you… why you ask????? Because of LOVE. Whenever I feel uninspired I’ll sometimes take full days off, even more than one day and just listen to music. We often forget why we started creating and simply listening to music that’s not yours can re-juice you as well. There’s nothing better than coming home from a festival and creating.
4. ASK QUESTIONS
Yup. Asking questions on how other people did it is a total thing. You want to know how he made his kicks pop so tough in the mix? You want to know what inspired him to write? ASK. People, the internet other producers.
Asking questions can teach you so much !
5. EXERCISE AND HYDRATE
Go outside for a walk get a gym membership and work out for an hour a day
drink water and don’t go to crazy on the coffee. I find tea is my saving grace because I don’t find myself crashing.
