When I listened to this slow-jamming tune by WAQMEUP, I was immediately reminded of the intense Korean R&B binge I’ve been stuck in for the past two weeks. You have the mellow sounding organ chords, a nice ambling BPM, and Ehiorobo’s vocals are delectable.
But… while I’ve had the best time listening to tunes by artist like Dean and Crush these past few weeks, “Sequoia Tree”, which came out via Heroic Recordings two days ago, isn’t just a traditional ABA-structured track. There’s not a particularly evident chorus, and the melody goes near and far. The beat pops like a fresh breath of air, jumping in and out right as you’re getting into the groove. And for some reason, all of this works really well.
