Janelle Monae released her first studio album on Bad Boy just a few months ago, and it has been widely received with critical acclaim. Given the way Janelle speaks about her work and music in general, it would be fair to describe The ArchAndroid (Suites II and III) as equal parts hip hop, neo-soul, pop, and art project. The video for her first single, Tightrope (below), is an eye full in a lot of respects – the spectacular dance moves, great costumes/colour/contrast, and filmography sit overtop a subtle undertone suggesting everyone (or at least Janelle) might be crazy.
