Last week, it seemed that a large percentage of the electronic ‘blogosphere’ hype was (rightfully) centred around Shlohmo’s Vacation -EP. On top of that, the L.A. producer finally dropped a studio recording of his “Crew Love” remix (check that out here if you haven’t already). However, this week, the tides have turned and Shlohmo is the one receiving the remix treatment.
I really don’t think there’s anyone else better suited to remix Shlohmo than Nicolas Jaar. This prolific 22-year old producer made a splash in the electronic music scene last year with his debut full-length “Space Is Only Noise”. Besides the one-off track “And I Say” released back in January, 2012 has been relatively quiet for Nico…up until now that is. His re-work of the ‘Vacation’ – EP cut “Rained the Whole Time” is a bleary-eyed trip through dark minimalist sound textures, funky guitar samples, and tribal rhythms. Where the original bends and sways like a palm tree in the wind, Jaar‘s adaptation glides along like a parasail.
I gotta hand it to Mr. Jaar, this might just be my favourite remix of 2012 so far:
