Max Aristid – Flight of the Bumble Bee by Dancewax Recordings
I was derping on the internets, as is my habit while I’m watching the clock and waiting to move far away, and I found this minimal-techno beauty from Berlin-based producer Max Aristid. You wouldn’t expect five minutes of dreamy, far-away, filtered synths paired with a simple eighth-note groove would compel anything but insomniac yawns from bored suburban dads lying awake at night in post-modern David Lynch inspired “art house films”…
BUT!
I find this track particularly fascinating. It’s not a banger, it won’t get a crowd raging, etc… But it does bring a smile to your face while it echos Rimsky-Korsakov in the timing, the key, and the overall feel of the song. Plus, when did you last hear sounds of nature put together with a beat in such a clean way? Aristid’s track requires multiple listens; just compare the ebb and flow of the bee buzzing with the timing of synths and the beats. If you count 1-2-3-4, each downbeat has the bees swarm, and each upbeat has the bees recede into the background. Give it a listen!
