Basically there is this pretty cool design competition going on over at OCAD that one of my friends is in. I wouldn’t normally post about something that is just a cool thing that someone I know is doing but i really think that the idea behind the competition speaks well to our local readership.Â
Third-year advertising students at The Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) were challenged to work with the theme “My Toronto is…Cultural Optimism” with the goal of creating impactful and inspirational messages of an ideal city and community in which they live. All submissions were required to be optimistic, positive and forward looking. Â - My Toronto is… Website
Its funny because I went to the site to vote to give someone a boost but genuinely felt hers was the best and certainly the one that is the most artistic in my opinion. I will let you guess which is my favorite, maybe we can get some dialogue going in the comments section. Hopefully people will agree with me and provide us with some feedback on these images. ANYWAY, GO VOTE!!!
Since the contest is about Toronto. Here is Toronto’s most prolific remixer once again (I always have something new from him)
P.S This is the first article i have categorized as Flaneur… thoughts?

rae drake is my toronto. i voted at least 20 times. legit?
Holy shit, that is some of the ugliest design i’ve ever seen.
The website is difficult to navigate and the thumbnails are tiny. Even enlarged, you don’t gt a true sense of the design. How are we supposed to vote on that?
Last year’s winner is better than all of this year’s contestants put together.
The slogans are weak in an advertising sense and the message is sloppy, like an after though. These designs all have one thing in common, they are not sure what Toronto really is. Which is kinda what we’re about to begin with. We’re multi, ambiguous, safe.
These seem like their done by first day immigrants who’ve only read about Toronto from our tourist guides.
I disagree with you Anne. I think these ads make you smile, which is exactly what Toronto is all about. It is a city FULL of cultural optimism. I say, a job well done!
Cody. I love you. David King, I love you too. I feel so warm and fuzzy inside to have friends that are all about the support ahaha. And, Anna, to each their own right!?
I definitely have to disagree with Anna there. The contest was not to state what Toronto is but to cheer Toronto up. If you read the objectives, it clearly states that the contest was supposed to create optimism. Multiculturalism and diversity was the objectives of the previous year’s contest. Ambiguous, safe? What are you talking about anyway? Have you ever created an Advertisement? Those are two things you stay away from in this business. Anyway, I thought the ad’s were well done and a couple of the headlines were pretty sweet. They made me smile, job well done guys!
Why so hateful Anna? You must have a sad life.
nie hakkuh en zagen maar funkuh en zagen! jezus vlijm scherp deze . keep up !
