“Everybody’s talking nobody’s listening, its all about the music. From King Tubby’s echo chamber in westenr Kingston to the Dup Step phenomenon out of London; who’s hot and whos not, we don’t care. Dark rooms with heavy basslines full of fans who are only there for the music and selectors who not only play but create it. Are you listening? Because Caspa is playing.”
- David Rodigan

I guess this one has been a long time coming. Over the past few months I have started to feel mad love toward Dub Step. From listening to the genre at home to hearing Rusko play live, I have become enamored with the genre’s deep resounding bass. I was fortunate enough to be involved with a party that brought Stenchman to town. The more I get exposed, the greater my love grows. This Friday I hit a girl in the back of the head when Diplo dropped into a Dub Step set within his set. That portion of his set ended up giving me one of the best feelings I have felt at Circa recently.

Thanks to some cool people that I have met my knowledge on the subject has grown. Dubslingers, Sidenote (Sensoria), 40 Hz Productions etc. have all been very cool about telling me what’s up and throwing me some awesome mixes to intensify my appreciation. The Dubstep parties I have been to have always been a good vibe. Rusko live was crazy because he was killing it on the live bass, but even more impressive was the fact that the opener (Sidenote) got a standing ovation at the end of his set. Stenchman killed it with a set that would have appealed to a lot of other crowds. The wednesday parties at Thymeless are always bumping and since I tend to go to parties that I know most of the music, hearing songs I haven’t heard of is one thing, artists I haven’t heard of is enriching.

Anyway here are a few things to point your ears in the right direction. Make sure you aren’t playing these tunes out of laptop speakers. And remember that the popularity of Snoop Dogg Millionaire is only evidence that this movement is coming for you, and you can’t run away.

There’s so much to love about dubstep. Not only is the music amazingly fresh, but the producers making tracks are soooo down to Earth. There’s none of the exclusivity of the other music electronic scenes going on right now. Rusko literally teaches you how to make a dubstep track on YouTube, and I’ve seen Stenchman on the dubstepforum giving advice to people who want to produce. It’s all incredibly inclusive yet still a close-knit community. Really great stuff.

I also went to see Diplo the other day, and he dropped Where’s My Money (Caspa mix) and I FREAKED OUT. It was great.

Thanks for the tracks; hope there’s many more posts like this!
