Monarch very helpfully posted some stuff we’ve neglected to post over the last couple months, and reposted some older favourites from the last year, and it makes my job this week a lot easier. Â Specifically, the Basement Jaxx/Sam Sparro stuff is way up on my list right now. Â I was remarking last night that Basement Jaxx and Sam Sparro are different, in terms of electronic artists, for some reason. Â I will have to consider it some more, but I think it’s because both make music with an album focus, whereas most of the other my other favourite artists release stuff almost solely as EPs. Â I still absolutely love Sam Sparro’s album from last year, and Basement Jaxx’s Scars is right up there with it.

Video’s Best Watched Stoned?

Ok, so I flew to Montreal for the weekend to take in the Bloody Beetroots show put on by our friends @ Saintwoods.com. It featured opening DJ sets by two of the producers that were included on the Panther Remix EP that was put out as a result of our remix competition. Torro Torro, who’s rendition of Panther ended up in Lee Mortimers top 10, played a set filled with their own unique edits and remixes and Golden Gloves got the crowd raging with an epic drop of Ghosts and Stuff and got me dancing across the floor with Mansion’s Gasaida. With amazing theatrics, including everything from fire breathing to cheerleading, the show’s intensity was unparalleled. Kids were climbing onto the stage and thrown into the audience to get passed around over top of a crowd that appeard to be one giant wave. To think, this is only the opening act.

My flight touched down on Sunday at about 10, but rather than going home I hit Caspa @ Wrongbar. With an array of tracks that included Drum and Bass classics, Dubstep standards and unreleleased exclusives, he managed to keep get everyone sweaty and keep get the room steaming, literally. His remixes of Miike Snow’s Black and Blue and DeadMau5 and Kaskade’s I Remember are two of my favorite Dubstep tracks right now. Hearing them both Wrongbar’s sound system only enhanced my appreciation for these BIG CHOONS.

Now, I sit here in anticipation of the next 5 days. Basement Jaxx Tuesday, Boys Noize Thursday, and Simian Mobile Disco Friday. Are you fucking kidding me? In 7 days I will see 5 of the top electronic music acts in the world right now!

Basement Jaxx spinning on 4 decks this Tuesday at Century Room (of all places) in Toronto: this is one of those shows that only comes to town once every so often, and I can’t wait to be there. Although the venue isn’t my favorite, I don’t think there is any reason any electronic music fan in Toronto should pass this up, even Boys Noize who will be easier to catch soon, I mean you can go see them in London on Thursday if you really want to.

Even though Power didn’t quite live up to Oi Oi Oi, the heavy hitting album has made huge waves this year. Though this show, like the Bloody Beetroots, might not resonate with me as much personally; ultimately, it is one of the biggest tours of the year. The reviews I heard from the show in Montreal have me very excited to see a set that supposedly contained a lot of surprises, curve balls and unpredictable track selection.

At the end of the week Simian Mobile Disco. Live. Not much else to say. Cruel Intentions is probably one of the hottest tracks of the year in my opinion. Audacity of Huge is massive, ironically? Something about the darker sound of Aumbulance just resonates so perfectly with me right now. Yes, I get to see this guys perform LIVE!
