Why does Cal have both a reputation for being the perfect opening DJ AND for throwing down incredible headlining sets? Two simple reasons.
First, he’s a prolific crate-digger who has married the mindset and skills of a pre-digital DJ with the vast online music resources and powerful discovery tools available to a modern day music publisher. Picture a DJ on two vinyl turntables, without the aid of a computer, and a record collection at his disposal which could fill from floor to ceiling every inch of a 1200 square foot apartment.
Second, he’s seen more live performances in the last four years than most of the worlds most heavily touring DJs. But instead of listening to his own same DJ-set every night, Cal has been out exploring both the world’s finest musicians AND the next big thing that you haven’t heard of yet.
The result is a DJ who knows how to build a party. From packing out the dance floor early to blowing the roof off at 1am, Cal nails it every time. A DJ’s job is more than just breaking records, playing exclusives, and knowing the biggest tunes; it’s Cal’s superior ability to connect with his audience that has resulted in his being called on to support some of the biggest names in dance music AND headline big rooms. For Cal, breaking records and playing exclusives just comes with the territory of being a respected taste-making music blogger, with a passion for delivering the excitement of hearing “that amazing track” for the first time, in the context he loves most – the live performance.
