After a breakout year in 2011 that saw him joining the ranks of the Red Bull Music Academy and headlining at the illustrious SONAR festival in Barcelona, Toronto producer and Deep Freqs guest Exeter laid low for most of 2012, dropping remixes for friend and fellow futuristic beat-smith Ryan Hemsworth, bootlegs of Rich Boy and The Dream and a scattering of live shows around Toronto. Now the low-key producer begins a new series of release on indie label Sincerious with “Contra”, the 1st track of his latest single.
Perfectly timed to end the season, the hazy, tropical vibes of this new tune shine through. Leaving behind the Hip-Hop and Trap influences that gave him his start, Exeter tries his hand at House with stellar results. Shimmering, Atmospheric dance music for fans of Rustie, Hudson Mohawke and the like with a heavy helping of bass and a retro-rave vibe, this one is essential summer listening. With a forthcoming full-length in the works for the fall, we can’t wait to see what’s next.
