Best of 2012: Bass Music Awards (Trap)

Welcome ladies and gentlemen… to part 6 of the bass music awards! I will be your host, as we delve into the year’s best releases, and crown 2012′s ‘King of Bass’.

Here it is… the breakout genre of 2012. I think you will find my top picks are a little different from that same list you see played out across the majority of electronic music blogs out there. A couple of the standard bangers made the cut, but you’ll definitely catch some under appreciated surprises in here!

WINNER: Benny Benassi – Satisfaction (RL Grime Remix)

Remixing such a classic is a very hit or miss task to pull off. If that drop isn’t the best damn thing you’ve ever heard, the song is automatically passed over and heads to the trash bin. RL Grime does an absolutely perfect job keeping Benny Benassi‘s original bass line in the spotlight, and modernizes it with a splash of trappy goodness to take down my pick of the year.

RUNNER UP: Flosstradamus – ☮☮☮ Lana’s Theme ☮☮☮

The thing I appreciate most about this popular Flosstradamus original is the placement of their gentle orchestral like breaks. The contrast created from those sections really brings out the full power of the drops, making those chopped vocals so much more meaningful.

#3 Birdy Nam Nam – Goin’ In (Skrillex‘ Goin’ Down Remix)

#4 Kastle – Stay Forever (VIP)

#5 Calvin Harris – Sweet Nothing (Diplo & Grandtheft mix)

#6 RL Grime – Trap on Acid

#7 Baauer – Harlem Shake

#8 Rustie ft. AlunaGeorge – After Light

#9 Dillon Francis – Masta Blasta (THE REBIRTH)

#10 Datsik – Bonafide Hustler (VIP)
