Best of 2012: Bass Music Awards (Laid-Back Tracks)

Welcome ladies and gentlemen… to part 5 of the bass music awards! I will be your host, as we delve into the year’s best releases, and crown 2012′s ‘King of Bass’.

Some of these would slot into multiple categories, but when I’m in the mood for some relaxin’, there’s a seperate playlist for that. Hence the laid-back track award!

WINNER: Cashmere Cat – Mirror Maru

Earning best chill tune of 2012 is Cashmere Cat. His title song from the ‘Mirror Maru’ EP has been a backdrop to many rainy mornings, using a range of organic sounding instruments and a smooth calming bass line to counter the precise nature of the drums. The EP really put his name on the map, and expectations are now set high in 2013.

RUNNER UP: First Aid Kit – Winter Is All Over You (Baauer Remix)

Baauer comes in at a very close second with his remix of First Aid Kit‘s ‘Winter Is All Over You’. The remix builds around one of the deepest bass line out there, surrounding you in it’s delightfully comforting crackle. The vocal chops are equally necessary, and add a great deal to this warming winter track.

#3 KOAN Sound – Introvert

#4 Hundred Waters – Thistle (Star Slinger Remix)

#5 Bon Iver – Woods (Zeds Dead Remix)

#6 Culprate – Two

#7 Gemini – Robots (Chrome Sparks Remix)

#8 Deadmau5 ft. Cypress Hill – Failbait
