Right now electronic music is all about fusion. Disparate styles, genres, and artists are collaborating and crossing-over.

For example, an entire movement – Moombahton – is taking shape around a single medium of tempo and beat structure, with a range of styles and aesthetics. Artists such as Knife Party, Porter Robinson, Feed Me, and Skrillex are producing uptempo, very hard sounding American electro-dubstep inspired Moombahcore. Yet others, such as Ginger Shinobi, Sabo, Munchi, Heartbreak, and many others are producing mid and downtempo jams. And somewhere in the middle (or out of this orbit completely perhaps) are artists like Dillon Francis, Torro Torro, and Bro Safari.

Collaboration of the month

One of the most interesting pieces of news this month was a collaboration; Mad Decent label boss Diplo and R&B heavyweight Usher got together on a track called Climax.

The other big piece of news is the release of You And I, out on Crosstown Rebels March 5th. This one gets our outstanding track of the month award.

There were so many great dubstep releases to choose from, but the three who edged out the top spot were Flux Pavilion + Nero (another giant collab), Benga, and Kill The Noise.

Two heavyweights with new electro remixes this month – Wolfgang Gartner and R3hab both released tracks which we’re sure will be moving dancefloors.

Free releases and blogosphere bootlegs

The biggest piece of news here is the release of Hardwell’s free 2012 bootleg compilation. Just a ton of quality party-ready mashups. There were also several MTA-approved Must Be the Feeling remixes which have been released free, including veteran Funkagenda.

Perhaps the biggest free release of the month however is Skream’s remix of Rusko’s Somebody to Love.

Another important mention goes out to Toronto-locals Keys N Krates, who released a free remix of Madeon’s hotly-anticipated single Icarus.
