Omar Linx recently released A Cold Welcome. The Toronto Hip Hop artist has collaborated with numerous local producers including Zeds Dead.
The tape takes its cues from the Old School, mixing it with updated production. The attached tracks are my favourite pieces on the tape. These tracks range from the laid back 3 Chapters to Can’t Stop, which feels like something out of NYC in the 90s, and Dear Mellody heading in a different direction musically. I can’t really pick a favourite, these are my top 3 and they will probably get more than a couple spins in my iTunes… I really need to buy an iPod. Overall the tape demonstrates Omar’s lyrical mastery and smooth flow. Mixtapes like this always make me wonder why one artist blows up and the other doesn’t. Hopefully Linx gets his chance to shine. Even though he states that he’s tryna do waht Jay did instead i end up jaded, hopefully he gets a chance to prove himself on a bigger stage.
