Surfer Blood Plays NXNE 2010

The afternoon of the 19th was a hot one at the free NXNE 2010 stage in Yonge and Dundas Square. The sun was between two buildings for several hours, and was beating down on the concert goers from the cloudless sky. Surfer Blood was the first act for me this particular afternoon, though bands had been playing all day. They were introduced by Damien from Fucked Up who labelled them the “Kings of Chill Wave”, to which Surfer Blood replied “we’re going to go load up Wikipedia and find out what the fuck Chill Wave is.”

Despite the jokes surrounding their label, I must say it was pretty fitting. The show was completely relaxed, and I really enjoyed hearing their songs for the first time in a live environment.
