Conor Cutz and DJ Black, College Crowd Pleasers

Conor Cutz has become the go to DJ for events in Waterloo Ontario and Jack Black (as a part of Black and Yellow) has been tearing up clubs in the same area. They recently remixed Wonderwall by Oasis. Music snobs might not show it love when listening, I can imagine the reaction it gets when these selectors drop it in their respective home towns… Girls yelling “Woooo”, guys throwing their beers in the air, and the crowd getting down to Electronic music. The production quality on this track is higher than the last few things I’ve received from Conor and the track is definitely a little club banger. Its not changing the music world, its not a turning point culturally, but I imagine there are a couple of DJs out there who would love to have this in their back pocket.

140 west is sick with conor cutz!!!
a less than stellar review and the same safe approach expected from Cutz..a little more attention to the music and less crowd pleasing tactics please.
FAIL!
are my speakers fucked or is this severely missing a bass line??
madd mix guys
Definately Improving, cant wait to hear the next one. Ill give this spins
great track but seriously kids need to stop with this ed hardy shit
Terrible.. needs alot of work
How did this get to the top of hypem?
College Crowd?
@anon
because not all music has to a science. Some people just like to hear a track for what it is and if they like it then so be it. yeah it needs some work of course, but if 400+ people hearted it on hypem they must have done something right.
on that note: i do think it needs some vocals and a bassline tho. luckily I have the acapella, i might just do that.
i agree with @ayso…. 400 plus peeps hearting it on hypem.com he must have done something right…don’t hate.
no need to hate at all, for any reason. this track is well done and will get play from a lot of people out there, guaranteed. its at the top for a reason. ya’ll prob on a hating tip cause ya’ll wanna be a dj. haha.
Toronto representtttt!!!
These kids are jokes, everyone wants to be a DJ. Who does this skinny kid think he is taking his shirt off. Stop trying to be Steve Aoki… Your going to be playing local clubs for the next 15 years. And Conor Cutz? You can cut kid? You can transform and thats about it. Kid says he is from the Toronto battle scene? Come to the DMC and show us what you got you clown.
i was expecting more, seems kinda rushed,
dont mean to hate either, just saying i know these guys could do better.
definitely needs more attention to it, make the music for the sake of making good music, not for the college kid that thinks a remix of a track they know is hype.
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! fuck ya boys! send us some more bangers!
Ayo! DK REMIX!
I’ve been producing for over two years and would kill to get a write up on a blog and ANY of my tracks put up, so big up’s to Salacious Sound for supporting virtually unheard of/up and coming producers both locally and abroad. And JFTR, nice one Cutz and Black!
I wish this track was better.
What’s the weird clicking sound in the right channel all about?
@dj jedi. what does it matter if hes skinny and he has his shirt off? youd rather see a fat guy with his shirt off? conor IS skilled with the cuts bu this remix REALLY sucks.
@brake – coming from someone with conor cutz at the top of their myspace your opinion means jack all.
In fact, the only reason this is even on the top of Hypem is because Touch Entertainment is spamming the shit out of it on facebook. Conor Cutz is being pushed solely by Touch & Joshua Seaton (which is where 100% of his bookings come from).
Kind of heading off topic, but its sad to see this industry being exploited by frat boys by the likes of Joshua Seaton and Conor Cutz.
Pathetic.
@DJ Jedi, totally agree with you.
Dj Jedi you are a fuckig faggot, u defialty have never seen conor throw down, he makes a club jump.
shut the fuck um DMC u fucing pussy, all u hates lets see u make abetter mix

“Cutz” is a fucking joke. Saw him ‘play’ Starlight lounge back in the summer. Instead of even trying to look as though he was doing ANYTHING technical, he jumped around without a shirt for half his set. He didn’t bother even putting on his headphones.
Not only that, he had the audacity to come up to one of the resident DJs mid set and fade his set out. He then tried to pick a fight with one of the bar staff and then bitched to, then sucked up to (hardcore) the Club’s Booker. Needless to say, he’s not welcome back anytime soon, twat.
Oh. Remember how a few months back, HYPEM was being hacked by folks on behalf of artists getting hearted? Sad, innit?
I think the Ed Hardy shirt & lack of shirt explains this “remix”
@joho – the only reason he opened for any of those DJs is because his best friend Joshua Seaton, owner of Touch Entertainment – the “company” that promoted all of those events – pushed it. Get your facts straight.
Not saying Conor Cutz doesn’t have potential, i just think that if he wants to get somewhere he should do it through his own merit, instead of getting a free ride with Touch Entertainment.
Stop hating so hard on the up-and-comer. Everyone has their opinion but read the facts. His first track with Ayo D aka DJ Black is #1 on hypem. Which means they have a ton of friends and supporters that like there style/skills. Salacious said it exactly how it is. Also most dj’s work a lot with one or two promoters, he never got a free ride with Touch Entertainment. Conor worked his balls off and will continue to work his balls off.
Stop with Hate and appreciate the up-and-comer’s Conor Cutz & DJ Black, you guys are dope and good luck in the future.
Dj black/ayo has come a long way but no more dead hardy lol please
Ok so he’s being promoted on Facebook…shocking!!!
….And people aren’t just ignoring the promo, which is easy to do, instead they are showing love. This proves he has a following and people are into what he throws down. Keep it up Conor…now you got people to impress and convince…so do it!
Everyone chill. It’s not the hottest track ever, we know that. Its solid though. But the dude gets people pumped and throws a good party. And that’s what its all about. Who cares if he’s mainstream. That just means more people like him and can get down to his shit.
Good job cutz and black, number 1 on hypem. fuck the haters
-shyguise
Yo cutz definetly has talent and potential so everyone stop hatin. From what i’ve seen and learned about the ‘DJ industry’ is that it is all about marketing and connections…and some talent as well. Cutz has insane connections and is a very good DJ, which is why he is where hes at. Lifes about knowin the right ppl..
I’m sorry but this kills a great song
Man you are a joke. Look at your bio, you came from the Toronto battle scene? No one has heard of you. Battle me? What are you going to do throw on a few electro records and scream with your fist in the air and bop your head like a fuckin idiot. Get some skill man, head to scratchlab and get dj grouch to teach you how to cut. You are a shit dj and shit producer. Stop thinking your going to make a career of this, look you play in WATERLOO ONTARIO. Your not a deckstar dj you know no one in nightlife but some kid who promotes the odd college party, your going nowhere but dingy piece of shit college bars. Time to get a real job you joke.
This is pretty good! Doesn’t sound anything like the original (which I also love).
@ Jedi
Lost alot of respect for you man, and im probably not the only one of your fans that is thinking this. What happens to the young djs that read this? The ones that look up to you as one of their favorites and get discouraged because of the comments you just wrote? Very low on your part because you are not just a DJ, you are a role model too!
None of your peers made any comments like that except you. You aren’t the greatest dj either, cant put you in the same breath as Jr Flo, and yet i don’t see him writing comments like that… probably because he doesnt spend his days looking for young artists to destroy..
Last i check you were a toronto DJ yourself trying to make it.
You not only embarrassed yourself and your management with these comments… you let down so many of your fans and people that idolize you, myself included…
Thank god i have other Djs to look up to in canada, Like Flo, Grandtheft, Wristpect
because although you may be skilled as an artist
As a Man? Role Model? You have a lot of soul searching and growing up to do
@ mike – word….
dj jedi – i wanted to listen to u play….but ure schedual is empty on ure website, the famous dj jedi is out in cali so i doubt he would spend the time tongue lashing a 20yr old student.
this is the first time ive heard of u…and the lack of internet presence says – u too small to be talking like that.
You got the wrong DJ Jedi in Toronto you clown, I spin out of NY, used to live in Toronto. Im not even doing clubs much anymore because I have a real job. I open for real DJs. I have a passion for music but it rests at that. All you kids coming into this have no clue. You buy a serato box and download a few electro tracks and think your Steve Aoki. None of you can scratch or juggle, you go on hypem, download the top tracks and beatmatch with your eyes. You will never cut it anywhere but these shit little bars. You’ve caught on with a fad. But you will hit 30 and realize that you are going nowhere with this. Conor Cutz and that Ed Hardy kid are like Marshall Barnes without the connections to big time promoters. Talentless. He doesn’t even have connections to the right promoters in Toronto. There are much better DJs on the up, look at M-Kutz. There is someone you could both take lessons from. Forget Jr. Flo. Go look at real club djs like ross one, fashen, steve1der, sinatra, jesse marco and see what they have to say about new jack kids like you. eat it.
just listened to “get it girl”… meh…not bad but duuude, u aint that hot
but dude, as a college student – its gotta be better than workin anywhere else!
just because u tried to make this your profession and failed, doesnt mean he is trying to.
i bet if u why he does this asked his response would be something along of
“because its fun”
yea…ill work on the english
@DJ Jedi
Whats with all the beef…I agree with Mike…you got nothing else better to do but get all your feather ruffled…your a bird…great track Cutz & Black
you scare me,
i like the mean one better
this post officially jump the shark
ps. this is what i mean… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDthMGtZKa4
@ed hardy comments… haha. funny. kind of true.
@jedi. The song should be criticized. It isn’t perfect. Thats all fair and dandy and criticism is welcome. There is a reason why we do remix competitions and post all of the remixes even if they weren’t all perfect, people get feedback improve etc. See Ben’s comment about the bassline.
Conor Cutz has been getting more respect over the last little while as a DJ and has managed to play some pretty cool gigs, obviously we can all admit to ourselves that he isn’t a DMC champion, but the majority of DJs arent… As someone who sees a lot of people spin on regular basis, I can attest to the fact that Conor is probably one of the few people @ his age who doesn’t eyeball his mixes. There is a difference between criticizing the Producer and criticizing the DJ. I think its a shame that you are discussing a person’s character based on this remix. Conor is one of the nicer and more humble dudes on the decks. Its funny that some how you got into an argument with Conor when he hasn’t even posted a reply… W.E though. Controversy sells?
RE Facebook and promotion: It got his friends to check out his track? It isn’t like he paid people to show him some love, people showed him some love… If you do something your proud of… why not tell your friends about it? If they respond positively all the better!
At the end of the day I’m REALLY glad i posted this. For the following reasons:
1. I like lots of comments, at the end of the day its very “internet” to have beefs with people we don’t know, have never met, and will probably never come into contact with.
2. think its good to get negative feedback sometimes
3. I find it funny that this got more hate than that hathbanger mashup (also went to #1 on Hypem)
4. This is the perfect preface for an article I was already intending on writing Re Hypemachine, Blogging, etc…
I would like to read that article
Is he spamming facebook with it? Why would he, this mix is nothing to be proud of, its low quality.
@jedi. this track sucks but your comments reak with jealousy. like when did conor claim to be the best dj ever? its like your aarguing with somethin he didnt say.
Go read his bio, he says hes from the Toronto battle scene. Hes not. He says he uses ‘new school methods of turntablism’. Wtf does that even mean? Write your bio and put yourself out there as you are. I enjoy knocking reality into idiots like this.
Good stuff Conor. Hope all is well in Loo and keep up the BPM
. . . Dj Black I’ll look out for more of your tracks!
Lukas – your right there is too much hate on this blog. The Toronto music scene is one of my favourites because of all the support artist’s offer each other. Anyone who is a hater, won’t last long in T.O.
ALSO @DJ JEDI It’s super funny you said “who does this skinny kid think he is taking his shirt off. Stop trying to be Steve Aoki” because Conor has partied/opened for Steve, i know that for a fact because my friends were all there. ALSO I’m in downtown toronto, but don’t knock waterloo. Where do you think the blackberry your using to rape this blog with your anger came from? take a hint, WATERLOO… Not only does RIM hire straight out of Waterloo, but now big DJ’s are picking up lil DJ’s straight out of Waterloo. So that burn also failed.
@wristpect your post is my favourite…dead hardey hehe.. i wear one of his perfumes though (and i smell damn good). Lets talk soon homie.
I used to get it in Ohio.
@ The Monarch – one of your best, most honest posts to date.
@ everyone else – The Monarch laid down the truth in this post, set out everything as it is, and kept it real. He even predicted that this track would receive large amounts of both hate and love, which it clearly has. There is no “hate” button on hypem, so maybe all the haters feel like they REALLY need to say something to be heard, given all the “love” this tune has received. This is the DJ Jedi syndrome, and explains why he went a little overboard with his hate. Hate is fair enough, but don’t go attacking Conor as a DJ unless you have heard him spin. He is talented. Cutz is also a good person, and that goes along way in any industry, including this one. There are lots of reasons Cutz is successful these days, but if you want another one, just take a look at this remix: he managed to get to #1 on hypem with a mediocre track, partly because remixing oasis is bloody brilliant (although admittedly sacrilegious) and also partly because hes got a strong base of fans and supporters who digg what hes doing and what hes about – the no shirt, aoki-esque-performance, oasis remixing, college crowd-pleasing, ed hardy wearing thing…so-what-the-fuck-ever to everyone. do your motha-fuckin thang conor…but be wary of remixing perfection. You cant ever truly win when u do.
I don’t get it, why hate or love something that’s no more or less than mediocre? The only thing I’m wondering about is why it’s #1 at Hype Machine…
http://salacioussound.com/2009/11/the-machine-is-just-hype/
Real shit on that article linked above.
Times change, different shit gets popular. Stop the hate. DJing is the new rapping, which was the new skateboarding. Everyone is gnna jump on board. Time is what will separate bad from good and good from great, not some disgruntled vet who makes ridiculous generalized statements that start with “all you kids think…” Cutz puts on a show and has a solid fan base that he’s earned by putting in work opening for countless shows. Let the man do his thing…
LOLOLOLOLOLOCAT…
The pot calling the kettle black
Its a good thing you only concentrated on the man’s DJing skills because your tracks are bad dude…very bad…. Get it girl is a mediocre fidget track circa 2006
Everything else is just un-listenable
lol, this is awesome…. Remember Conor, hating is the sincerest form of flattery…. HUSTLE HARD!!!
@The Monarch, just read your article on fb. amazing -Â followed all the links. had a good laugh.
Being the fourth to post on this track I was pretty surprised to read all these comments.I could do a bunch more @’s but I won’t – well, just one.
@Conor Cutz – though you haven’t posted on this I thought I might as well just leave a note in case you do. You have a great idea remixing wonderwall, not surprisingly this track got a tonne of hype. Things I think you could improve on would be, for one thing, adding in a melodic & quick bass line to this track, the typical few note bass line most electro tracks have just wouldn’t work because of the structure of the looped samples and repetitive effects. And as for your producing on the whole, one thing I’ve really noticed that I thought I would just comment on is your overall style. I’m not too sure if it’s what you’re aiming for, but what I’ve noticed is your style of producing sounds kind of like a progressive electro? Again, maybe this is what you’re going for, and apparently a lot of people dig it, but I kind of feel like you need to structure your tracks better.
Meaning, bringing in a couple melody lines right out of the gate is fine – and definitely more prominent these days than the classic straight four to the floor beat – openings of a couple years ago (and predominant in the more house-y scene), but you keep those individual melodies going to long. You know what I mean? It’s like your songs are all done by a barbershop quartet, and the chorus is being sung in cannon repetitively. -Â granted there are a couple of interesting and appealing breaks & drops here and there, maybe a quick change-up in the melody, but on the whole it just keeps building and building, without really generating much anticipation — does that make sense?
Haha, anyway, thought I might just give you some feedback, keep doing what you’re doing, experiment, and don’t let male dj’s who apparently have everlasting menstruation get you down.
just realized that i might have rambled a little. sorry folks who don’t give a shit.
I Wish This Post WOuld Go On Forever… Please keep up the good work DJ Jedi And Conor Cutz!
