Salacious Sunday Hip Hop Hits: Handsome Begets Handsome

Handsome Boy Modelling School is a now defunct project, formerly comprised of Dan the Automator and Prince Paul. The two are real hip-hop heavyweights, so when my brother gave me the album ‘White People’ a few years ago now I was pretty excited. Curiously I was greeted by a rather strange skit on the first track, and more followed on the album too. I’ll admit, perhaps with some feelings of guilt, that the skits were the first thing I liked on this album. Between my friends and brother, for years, they have been the ‘running joke’.
Anyway, an album’s skits can’t keep you coming back like I have to this CD, so there’s more to be shared. The production on White People is top notch – for those who are not familiar with Prince Paul, his most famous gig was producer for De La Soul. The guest drops are fantastic too – Jack Johnson on the track I’ve included was a really interesting inclusion, contrasted pretty sharply with the turntablist mastery on It’s Like That, or RZA of Wu-Tang’s rapping.
